The government tax office, Federal Board of Revenue, is planning to turn off the electricity and gas for people who haven’t paid their taxes. Right now, the Federal Board of Revenue doesn’t have all the information about the electricity connections of those who haven’t paid taxes.

After that, the Federal Board of Revenue will release a general order with names of people who haven’t paid their taxes and didn’t follow the rules. This is needed by the law after sending them notices. Then, they will begin the process of turning off electricity and gas and blocking their mobile phones.

The head of the Federal Board of Revenue mentioned that a big challenge for the Federal Board of Revenue is having limited resources. He believes that once the FBR has more resources, it can collect even more money.

The Federal Board of Revenue chairman expects that the money collected will increase in the second half of the fiscal year (January to June) 2023-24. Last year, 45 percent of the total collection happened in the first half of the year 2022-23.

TheFederal Board of Revenue is sure they will surpass the target of Rs975 billion for December 2023, even though the goal was Rs967 billion. They believe they will meet both the December and July-December targets for 2023-24.
